4.40 am: Rise and shine!!
4.40 – 5.10: Morning devotions
5.10 – 5.15: Morning power couple pow wow session—over the phone
5.15 – 5.30: Multitasking madness prepare lunch and breakfast and clean thyself (as above)
5.30 – 5.45: Get them clothes looking good, we can’t go looking like something the cat dragged in
5.45 – 6.15: Eat breakfast and catch up on world news via Sky, BBC or Al-Jazeera
6.15 – 6.30: Brush teeth, finishing touches, pack bags
6.30: All set to leave for the day ahead

7.00 am Arrive at seminar venue, get coffee aka good morning brain drink…
7.10 – 8.00: Joint Orthopaedics-Neurosurgery Spine Forum presentations
8.00 – 8.30: Chow time!! Breakfast
8.30 – 8.45: Drive like Hamilton to work
8.45 – 9.00: Change into theatre scrubs, confirm ICU bed available

9.00: In OT catch up with the A-team

9.00: In OT catch up with the A-team

9-9.30: As patient is doped, prepare microscope, check equipment is all available, Quick pre-op tut with registrars
9.30-9.45: Position patient and pin
9.45-1.30: Case number one.. Aneurysm clipping.. the stuff we did neuro for. BP goes nuts and normalises after aneurysm is clipped
1.3 – 1.45: Move patient to ICU bed, run to next case in angio suite
1.45 – 2.00pm Lunch on the go… Quick bathroom break
2 – 4.00pm Case number two..Neurointerventional stuff…Tumour embolization…

4.00 – 4.15: Write theatre notes.. Rest tired feet
4.15 – 4.30: Trace street clothes in call room. Catch up and laugh session with colleagues
4.30 – 5.00: Drive home.. headache from trying to plan supper
5.00- 5.15: Stare at fridge in confusion

5.15: Settle for the three major food groups for the night-chocolate, multivitamins and wine

5.15: Settle for the three major food groups for the night-chocolate, multivitamins and wine

5.15 – 6.15: Relax with a great book
6.15 – 6.45: Eat and start preparing reading material
6.45  -9.45: Hit the books and journal articles… Read up on any interesting cases due for theatre tomorrow
9.45 – 10.45: Begin mental shut down process, praying for no insomnia today..Enter Modern Family…Sigh!
11.00 pm Pray and thank God for another miraculous day…Wait to sleep
5.00am Let the games begin again!!
